Dance Cover Showcase: Genesis

Genesis party design 3 by AT KPOP NOW

Could you tell us who you are, where you’re from and why you have chosen this dance cover as your showcase?

Hello! My name is Gene. I am from Venezuela and I choose this cover, because it was very quickly to record it, despite having been slow to learn it completely. Besides, I really liked this debut and concept of Aespa. I really loved it.

So how long did you have to study the choreography?

I really focused on learning this choreo very well, because the part on the floor was a bit demanding. So I think it took me 4 days. I was practicing 3 hours without a break during those days, so I could learn it completely.

How long does it normally take for you to memorize the choreography?

I think the type of choreography depends on how much I will learn from it. A chorus of 30 or 40 seconds would take 1 to 2 and a half hours to polish it. A full cover can take me at least 3 days (considering the level of difficulty it may take me a week).

What was the most difficult part of the choreography?

I think the most demanding parts were, this part of the chorus (00: 47) and the parts where there is a change of arms and movements of the hips (00: 59). I don’t know why, but it was a bit complicated for me at the beginning.

Were you surprised that the choreography was easy / difficult and why?

It looked a bit difficult, especially the part of the chorus and the “dance break” honestly, but they look very agile and synchronized. So when I saw it, I said to myself “maybe it is not so difficult to do it, I think I can learn it quickly”. Which did not happen haha! But honestly, I managed to catch the dance break very quickly, unlike the chorus lol. maybe it took me 1 hour to learn it without mistakes.

How did you come up with your outfit?

The outfit I chose was one that Karina wore during the Music Bank. All the outfits they used in their promotion were great, so it was a bit tricky for me which one to choose.

Are there hidden bloopers / secrets in your dance cover?

This is the first recording in the dining room/kitchen of my friend’s house lol.

If you could give one positive message / advice to anyone out there who loves to do K-pop dance covers, what would it be?

Dancing can be very liberating and more so if you do a genre as special as K-op. There will be people who will not understand it and will comment like: “why do you dress like that?” “Why do you do this and that?”. But you go ahead with it, you never know how far our potential can become if we don’t work on what we like or something bigger if it’s your dream, but above all have fun in the whole process of learning a dance. It is very fun to be able to enjoy a random K-pop with friends or you alone at home, especially in this situation. Do not lose your youth, dreams and hopes!

And last but not least: If you could give a shout out to another K-pop dancer, because people need to see their showcase. Who would you like to give a shoutout to and why?

Yes! She is @monixly on Instagram. This girl is very talented. Personally, I like all of her covers so much!
