Dance Cover Showcase: Akemi

Akemi party design 3 by AT KPOP NOW

Could you tell us who you are, where you’re from and why you have chosen this dance cover as your showcase?

My name is Akemi and I from Hawaii, the United States! I have chosen my “Kings & Queens” cover by Ava Max, because I really worked hard on this dance and it was really fun to film!

So how long did you have to study the choreography?

It took me about 30 minutes to an hour to really get the moves in my head! To clean it up, it took me about a day or so to really make it perfect. I was really picky about this cover!

How long does it normally take for you to memorize the choreography?

It really depends! Usually, when I’m just learning the chorus, it can take me 10 to 20 minutes if it is a girl group. Although for boy groups, maybe about an hour. If I am planning to learn the whole thing, definitely 2 to 3 days! Cleaning the dance probably adds an additional 5 days ahaha.

What was the most difficult part of the choreography?

It was really hard to pick out the details as this dance has a lot of tiny textures in it. I really tried to focus on the details, which is why it took me a bit longer than usual. For example 0:20!!

Were you surprised that the choreography was easy / difficult and why?

I was actually pleasantly surprised with the difficulty of it. There was a variety of different moves that really collided with each other well and so many things that needed to be well executed in order for my cover to appeal to the eye! It is definitely more of a girl crush style though, which I love!

How did you come up with your outfit?

This day, I wanted to do casual/girly look, so I just randomly chose an outfit from my closet. I don’t normally think too hard when it comes to outfits unless I want to.

Are there hidden bloopers / secrets in your dance cover?

There are definitely moments where I lost balance. Which is a common occurrence for me lol.

If you could give one positive message / advice to anyone out there who loves to do K-pop dance covers, what would it be?

Please just be yourself! Have fun when learning and show off them moves to the world! <3

And last but not least: If you could give a shout out to another K-pop dancer, because people need to see their showcase. Who would you like to give a shoutout to and why?

Definitely @jeonilynh! I’ve been following her even before I started my account and she inspired me to start. Her charisma is amazing and I aspire to be at her level! Please check her out!
