Could you tell us who you are, where you’re from and give us a little description about yourself?

Hi I’m Valerie! I’m a Filipina from Canada who finally built up the courage to share my dance covers this year(2020), something I wanted to do for 8 years! I’m very passionate about dance and love to support dancers to grow.

So how long are you a K-pop fan and how did you get introduced?

I’ve been a K-pop fan for 8 years, it’s what got me into dancing. My first time seeing K-pop was on MusicBank on tv! I saw BigBang and was impressed by their aesthetic and charisma. I also discovered the equally iconic Wondergirls and learned their dance and I was hooked.

Why do you love K-pop and what makes it different compared to other genre’s?

I think the K-pop industry is one of the best in the entertainment industry, because they put so much effort and detail in their visuals and really know how to captivate their audience. Especially dance, they bring live performances to a whole new level.

If you make K-pop related content could you tell us what you do and why?

I make dance covers on Instagram and maybe someday YouTube as well. After discovering K-pop it kind of started to fade and in 2016 I was hesitant, but decided to join a K-pop dance crew (no longer active) and practiced and performed on stages. I love combining two things that made me happy: dance and K-pop and so recently I finally decided to make 15 year old Valerie’s vision come true by making a dance page.

Could you tell us your top 5 K-pop groups (in no particular order):

2NE1, BlackPink, Twice, BIGBANG and Miss A.

Out of those 5, if you had to pick a number 1, who would it be and why?

BlackPink, they’re so iconic and it feels like they’re carrying 2NE1’s legacy in their own way. They kinda helped me cope with the fact that 2NE1 disbanded lol. I also align myself more with BlackPink because I love their style and bad-ass concept the most!

Who’s your bias. Could you tell us your top 5 (in no particular order):

Jihyo (TWICE), Lisa (BlackPink), ChungHa (I.O.I), Taeyang (BIGBANG) and Taemin(SHINee).

If you had to pick a number 1 bias, who would it be and why?

100% Lalisa Manoban (BlackPink)!! To be a trainee and spend multiple hours a day to make her craft perfect. To learn a whole new language and move away from her family, to me, Lisa is the embodiment of hard work. I think she is one of Korea’s TOP performers. I feel most connected to her I guess, because we are similar in age and I had a bit of a similar experience to have to move far away from my family to pursue my career.

Imagine getting a wish granted, but it has to be K-pop related: could you tell us what your wish would be and why?

To go on tour as a back-up dancer for BlackPink and ChungHa!!!

Let’s spread some love by giving a big shout out. Who would you like to give a shout out to and why?

Gosh there’s so many people that deserve a shout out. I want to shout out the whole dance community and the different kinds of artists on Instagram/ any social media platform and for being brave and proud to share their craft. It’s saddening that some people (like myself) hold back in fear that people will judge them, so seeing others push through that is very inspiring.

And last but not least: if you could change the world with just one positive message (it doesn’t have to be K-pop related), what would it be?

Truly believing in yourself and supporting others will help you and others flourish and accomplish many things. Don’t wait for things to happen, you’re the only one who can make them happen.
