Dance Cover Showcase: Jane

Jane party design by AT KPOP NOW

Could you tell us who you are, where you’re from and why you have chosen this dance cover as your showcase?

I’m Jane, I’m 19 and I’m from Italy! My choice for the showcase is one of my favorite covers: “MMMH by Kai“. With this cover I wanted to challenge myself to try something out of my comfort zone and unexpectedly it turned out better than I imagined!

So how long did you have to study the choreography?

Probably around an hour and then 20 minutes to clean and catch up details. I used to practice for a couple of days before filming the actual cover, but since I don’t have a mirror, I often record myself during practice to correct eventual mistakes.

How long does it normally take for you to memorize the choreography?

It depends on the choreography of course, but normally no more than 45 minutes. Unfortunately I struggle with boy groups’ choreographies, in that case it would take more time. Like two hours in total!

What was the most difficult part of the choreography?

The hardest part is FOR SURE the floor part (from 0:35 to 0:40 in the original song). Since I chose to follow the backup dancers, as I found that part really cool, I actually struggled a lot! My thighs literally burned after practices and filming.

Were you surprised that the choreography was easy / difficult and why?

I actually thought that the choreography would be very difficult to learn, as Kai is an amazing dancer himself, but I was really surprised when I start learning it! Besides the floor part, I almost had no difficulties at all and I felt very relieved by that to be honest!!

How did you come up with your outfit?

I always try my best to recreate or get inspired by the idols’ outfits. I often try to find ideas based on the vibe of the song itself.

For this cover I got inspired by the outfits of the backup dancers mixed with Kai’s “Studio Choom”. The makeup was also totally influenced by the song’s vibe, but unfortunately it’s hard to see in the video.

Are there hidden bloopers / secrets in your dance covers?

Ofcourse there are! I tripped many times actually and my gloves also couldn’t stay in place and I had to pull them back every couple of minutes.

If you could give one positive message / advice to anyone out there who loves to do K-pop dance covers, what would it be?

I want to be honest: it can be hard sometimes, but the most important thing is to do what you love! Don’t care about numbers, negative comments or the quality of your dancing. Having fun is what matters the most! Never give up and keep doing what you love.

And last but not least: If you could give a shout out to another K-pop dancer, because people need to see their showcase. Who would you like to give a shoutout to and why?

Probably everyone I know? There are a lot of talented dancers I would like to mention, so many kind and lovely people I had the luck to meet. If I really have to choose one, I have to mention one of my best friends: @mlyhope_
She’s an amazing dancer and, most importantly, one of the greatest people I could meet.
